Weekly Recap - Final Week of the Legislative session

Last week saw the end of this year's Legislative session, and outside of Monday, most of that time was spent on the budget and HB 1100. This week I'm going to talk about HB 1100.

HB 1100 was one of the more controversial bills this year as it pertained to Initiated Measure 26 approved by the voters last November.

Weekly Recap - Week 8

We are now in the last week of the session. Monday was our last day to move bills off the Senate or House floor with either an affirmative vote to pass or to kill a bill by it not receiving enough votes to pass. There will be some bills that have been amended in the Senate or House that will need to move to the other chamber for concurrence on the amendment.

Final Days

Final days of the session. We are down to our last two days of the session, and we are in serious hurry up and wait mode. I believe the budget has been agreed to with the House, so that is moving along nicely.

Weekly Recap - Week 7

Including this week, there will be two weeks left in this year's Legislative session. These last two weeks will be busy as we get the rest of the House bills out of committee and special appropriations bills off the Senate floor. Last week was busy dealing with a couple of marijuana bills and getting one of my bills, SB 182, out of Joint Appropriations. SB 182 will direct more funds toward the firefighters association for training.

Weekly Recap - Week 6

Including this week, there will be only three weeks of the 2021 Legislative session remaining. Wednesday of this week is the last day to move the required delivery of bills or resolutions by a committee to the House of origin, meaning all House or Senate bills must have their hearing in committee and passed on to the full body or be voted down in committee.

Last week we heard two bills on the Senate floor with a lot of interest - SB 183 and SB 177.

Weekly Recap - Week 5

Last week Covid-19 finally hit the Capital and State Legislators. As of Sunday, 8 House members have tested positive and no Senators. I was in close contact with the first Representative who tested positive and chose to stay at home last week and participate remotely. I did get a test, and I tested negative. The Legislature set up rules for this year that allow a Legislator to participate remotely by Teams.

Weekly Recap - Week 4

We have now completed the first four weeks of this year's session. There have been a total of 477 House and Senate bills and another 31 commendations and resolutions. Committees have been hearing four to six bills per meeting, and on the Senate floor, we will be working our way through ten to twenty bills a day now.

Weekly Recap - Week 3

This week will be number four of session. This is the last week a bill can be introduced by an individual. So far, there have been 194 House bills and 164 Senate bills introduced.
